As one of Directors of the Festival my time is taken up with running around and making sure all the events taking place are going okay, that they have everything they need and that they are running smoothly. I have a wonderful team of volunteers who have been able to look after a lot of things while I have been based in the festival information point giving out free books to passers by as part of our campaign to get people to “Embrace Literature”. I find it quite amusing to see the reactions on people’s faces when we say the books are free. “What, free?”, they ask. Yes – free. The only thing we ask is for a donation in one of our yellow buckets which goes towards the running costs of the festival. People take a selection of books and thank us profusely when they leave. Here are a few people choosing books in the info point:
So far I have very much enjoyed everything I’ve done. I’m delighted that Maggie Doyle is the new Worcestershire Poet Laureate and I thoroughly enjoyed “Fancy A Double” last night at Malvern. I’ll post a separate entry and photos later, but huge thanks in the meantime to Catherine Crosswell for organising such a first class event. I didn’t want the evening to end!
I’ll see you all at more events this week, including “Worcester Sauce” on Tuesday, Michael Meacher MP on Wednesday and the festival special of “Parole Parlate” on Thursday. Come down to the Crowngate and pick up a programme, come to our events… and embrace literature.
