FREE ENTRY!

We’re looking for talented young writers between the ages of 7 and 17 to send us stories of a maximum of 300 words.

Winning entrants for each age category will receive:

£30 book token – 1st Place

£20 book token – 2nd Place

£10 book token – 3rd Place

All winners will have their work published in the Young Writers’ Anthology by Black Pear Press. Other highly commended entries will also be considered for publication.

We would love for you to tell everyone about this competition. Please download and share this poster with any Young Writers who may like to enter.

Competition Rules

1. Competition open to Young Writers between 7-17 years of age.

2. Closing date is 30 June 2020. Entry is Free!

3. Word limit: 300 words. Only 1 entry per writer.

4. Submitted pieces must not have been published elsewhere and must be the entrant’s original work. Translations of anyone else’s work are not eligible. Copyright remains with the writer.

5. Entries may be published on LitFest, Rotary and Titania websites and social media, read at LitFest and Rotary events and included in an anthology.

6. Entries must be in English.

7. The subject line of the e-mail must state: Young Writer Competition.

8. A short (50 word) profile written in the body of the email.

9. Entries should be attached as a Word document. Give your name, age, school year and contact details in the body of the email, as well as the title and word count of your submission. The entry and consent form below must be completed and digitally signed by you and your parent / guardian and be emailed with your entry. NB Schools who already have permission from parents / guardians need complete only one form on behalf of the school.

10. Entries should be single spaced, in a legible 12pt font such as Times New Roman or Arial.

11. The winner and runners-up will be announced at the launch of Worcestershire Literary Festival and notified via email. Entrants will be informed beforehand and invited to read at the event. (Festival postponed due to Coronavirus – we will keep you updated).

12. The theme this year: ‘Words & Pictures’ — all styles and genres are welcome.

13. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of this competition.

Entry into the competition signifies agreement to these rules.

Age Groups

JUNIOR: School Years 4-6

INTERMEDIATE: School Years 7-9

SENIOR: School Years 10-12 
 

 

All entries will be judged by a panel of judges.

Judges have been selected for experience in literature, journalism or related experience.
